What volunteers would do
United Way of Hancock County says Impact Team members review grant applications from local nonprofit partner agencies and recommend which organizations should receive campaign funding and at what level. The board of directors makes the final funding decisions.
Time and experience
The organization wants about 40 volunteers by September 28. No grant-review experience is required. Volunteers attend a short training in early October, review four or five applications at their own pace during October, and join one team meeting in mid-November.
Why it matters
The process gives residents a direct look at local needs involving food security, housing, families, health, and safety. United Way says its 2025 campaign raised $1.9 million for distribution in 2026 and set the same goal for this year's campaign.
Confirmed versus uncertain
Confirmed: recruitment is open, the requested commitment is defined, and volunteers make recommendations. Uncertain: the final number of applicants, the amount available for 2027 grants, and which agencies will receive funding are not yet known.
